Name: Hannah J. Flynn Also Known As: Carrie N. Bess Birthdate: March 10, 1987 Age: 26 Height: 5'2" Hometown: Red Rock, Oklahoma Special Skills: Former Agent of the Powers That Be; Absorbs and transforms elemental energy
Personality: Hannah is very animated and charismatic. She assumes good will in those around her. She is a bit impish and loves to laugh. She displays an enduring quality of naivete and a purity of heart. She is a very down-to-earth person and also a tree hugger ("Save the Turtles!"). One of her favorite hobbies is collecting odd furnishings for her home, like a giraffe-shaped lamp. She looks at the world through very big eyes.
Background: When Hannah was 14, she developed an immunodeficiency disease. Living with her grandmother, there wasn't much money for traditional health care. Hannah was sent to a local medicine man to try experimental methods. There, she was taught to absorb the energy of the natural world to give her body added strength to heal itself. During that process, she realized that she could actually translate the energy back into the world around her. Until moving to Searchlight, she had no family or close friends left, but after taking a job as a waitress at the Searchlight Nugget, it didn't take long for the outgoing girl to make plenty of new friends and embark on a few relationships in the small town. Unlike most of Searchlight's new residents, she really took to life in the desert and became infamous on the old-lady BINGO circuit. She also found her way into a few local tabloids for causing trouble with Natasha Rockwell, a local musician. The most memorable incidents were an angry march up Las Vegas Blvd. to protest the low wages of club bouncers, and a stand-in at the Searchlight Nugget (where she happened to work).
On July 25, 2011 she attempted to perform a cleansing exercise on a sick friend (Whistler) and channeled too much energy from her own body to his. Her death shocked her friends, but the bigger surprise was learning Hannah had been chosen to be an Agent of the Powers That Be. She became a sort of spirit guide between this world and the afterlife, eventually becoming corporeal, but never able to stay on the earth plane very long.
In January of 2014, Hannah finally found a solution for her situation. There was a clause hidden in her contract. It stated that an appointed Agent could step down if they found a willing, suitable replacement in a mortal, and the Agent was willing to pick up that person's life as-is. Hannah found a match in Carrie Bess, a young Chicago waitress fresh off the loss of her daughter and eager for a way out of her life.
There were catches. If, at any point, Carrie ever wanted to back out of the arrangement, Hannah would be required to relinquish her place in Carrie's life. Furthermore, Hannah's old identity was dead; although allowed to return in her body, she had to step into Carrie's shoes. A spell similar to a glamour was put in place to mask Hannah's physical appearance from Carrie's coworkers, family, and friends, which meant she'd have to force a distance to hide the holes in her memory and changes in her personality.
Skills: Hannah's power lies in drawing energy from the elements (earth, air, fire, water) and translating that energy into her physical surroundings (either into another element or even a living being). Purest sources of those elements are best. She can store the energy she gains for certain periods of time. She most usually chooses to give that energy back in a positive manner (to spur growth or strength), though it could be used as a destructive force as well. Her abilities have limitations. Most of the energy she can give is useful for small tasks or aiding in spells. For larger displays of power, she may need someone to ground her, or else she could give too much and hurt herself in the process.
